My Involvement and Impact
Here at IUPUI, I have had so many opportunities for hands-on experience. These are just a few of the things I have done which have impacted my learning so much!
INShape
INShape is an internship where we as students get paired up with a client and get some hands-on learning on what training a client is like. I have learned how to be more confident in myself and how to fix or change my plans on the spot.
One moment that stuck out to me was when my client told me he could just feel himself getting strong and increasing his weight Another moment would be when doing our post-assessments he was super excited to hear how much he had improved in such a short amount of time when compared to his pre-assessments. I think these moments stuck out to me because I was helping someone feel better about themselves and helping him gain more confidence in himself while I was also gaining confidence.
The six words I chose to describe this experience were nerve-racking, intense, intense, educational, fun, busy, and sociable. I chose those 6 words because starting out it was very busy, and nerve-racking to meet someone new, and writing all the plans was intense. As the weeks went on the experience became really fun, and social as my client and I got to know each other better. Overall this experience was very educational and I am thankful to get this hands-on learning.
Ability Fitness Clinic
The ability fitness clinic was another personal training experience but with a client that has a disability. This Experience allowed me to my client who was one of the funniest and one of the most outgoing person I know. I learned how to make activity plans and make certain modifications for my client. I learned to be patient and fix things on the go.
Camp Brosius
My 5 StrengthFinder themes were restorative, responsibility, consistency, arranger,
and relator.
I like to try and bring people together and motivate them to work as a team. I think that communication is key. I am someone who will take the initiative and lead. I liked to lead my family but I also like when they would give feed back and pitch their own ideas to potentially make something work or be better.
Monumenta Marathon
Freshman year I was able to participate in the Monumental Marathon. During this I was able to train elementary kids to run a 5K. After a few weeks of training I was able to run in the marathon with them which was so much fun! Despite how cold it was that day it was still so much fun to run with them and keep them positive, The kids I trained had such a great time and it was so cute to see the smiles on their faces during the race!
